CUMBRIA WOMAN DEFIES PREDICTIONS
“I basically died and came back. I wonder sometimes why I survived, but I try to stay positive”
These are the words of Michelle Ferguson from Cumbria who suffered massive brain injuries after being resuscitated following a heart attack.
Up until her early 20s, Michelle was living life to the full. Known locally as Fergy, she played darts and pool for Cumbria and was out socialising almost every night.
She could never have imagined what was about to come. At just 23 Michelle suffered a sudden and severe heart attack. Technically, she died. Doctors managed to resuscitate her but her brain had been starved of oxygen, leaving her with permanent damage.
She lost her memory and her mum was told to prepare for the likelihood she may never walk or talk again. Once so full of life, it had suddenly all been taken away.
Now, with the help of specialist support and rehabilitation, Michelle has recovered beyond everyone’s expectations and is becoming increasingly independent again.
