The Service User has the right under this charter to expect:
1. To have care provided, in accordance with the agreed plan of intervention, by staff whose education, experience, training and attitude make them suitable to meet the Service User’s individual needs, and who will provide care in a friendly, appropriate and respectful manner.
2. To be treated as an individual to make their own decisions on matters which affect them, and to participate, as fully as possible (with the help of a friend or relative if desired or advocate), in drawing up an intervention plan, review it, and agreeing any modifications.
3. To be involved in the selection of the Employees allocated or assigned to meet the Service User’s needs, and to confidentiality in respect of the service they are provided, their personal circumstances, financial, domestic or family matters.
4. To be listened to at all times and to have their thoughts, opinions and attitude respected and considered.
5. To be respected and never to be put in a situation where they are likely to feel demeaned.
6. To be encouraged to be as independent as possible, to have freedom of movement, to be allowed to take risks and to live a lifestyle which is, as far as possible, geared to their personal choice and preference.
7. Not to be discriminated against for any reason, e.g. race, age, colour, religion, disability, sexual orientation, physical and financial circumstances.
8. To have access to friends, relatives, religious leaders, etc, and to assist, where necessary, in making arrangements.
9. To have information in a format and manner to aid comprehension.
10. To be treated as partners in the rehabilitation and support service provided form them and to take an autonomous lead in this relationship.
